Refik Anadol Studio (RAS) is at the forefront of AI-generated media art, creating breathtaking immersive experiences that challenge our perception of reality. As RAS's creative vision expanded, they needed a robust cloud infrastructure to match their ambitions. Zencore partnered with RAS to build a secure Google Cloud Platform (GCP) foundation and deploy cutting-edge Machine Learning (ML) infrastructure on Vertex AI, enabling the studio to bring their most audacious artistic concepts to life.
Project Challenges
To keep up with the growing complexity and scale of their AI-driven art projects, RAS needed to migrate to a cloud environment capable of handling intense data science workloads and real-time art generation. The challenge was twofold: first, to establish a foundational cloud infrastructure, and second, to migrate and optimize their Machine Learning pipelines using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform.
Solution
Zencore engaged with Refik Anadol Studio in a two-phased project to ensure a seamless transition to Google Cloud:
Phase 1: GCP Cloud Foundations
- Secure Landing Zone: Zencore designed and implemented a secure GCP landing zone, establishing a robust network architecture that included VPCs, firewall rules, DNS configurations, and secure connectivity.
- Identity and Access Management (IAM): Zencore integrated RAS’s Identity Provider (IdP) with Google Cloud to enable Single Sign-On (SSO) and established role-based access controls to ensure proper permissions for users and services.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Utilizing Terraform, Zencore set up a CI/CD pipeline for managing the cloud infrastructure, ensuring efficient and consistent changes.
- Security and Governance: Security and governance configurations were implemented, including encryption, monitoring, and logging, to protect RAS’s sensitive data and workflows.
Phase 2: GCP ML Infrastructure Deployment
- Infrastructure Provisioning: Zencore provisioned the necessary GCP infrastructure for RAS’s Machine Learning workloads, including Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) for application serving, GCS buckets for storage, and AlloyDB AI as a vector database.
- Data Science Tooling Migration: Zencore migrated RAS’s local data science tooling to Google Cloud’s Vertex AI. This included adapting PyTorch models to run within Vertex AI custom containers and setting up Vertex AI Pipelines for efficient model serving.
- Vertex AI Integration: The ML models and pipelines were successfully deployed on Vertex AI, enabling RAS to run their art generation processes with greater efficiency and scalability.





Results
Through this collaboration, Refik Anadol Studio now operates on a fully optimized and secure Google Cloud infrastructure, with their Machine Learning art generation pipeline running seamlessly on Vertex AI. This transformation has enabled RAS to scale their creative processes, reduce operational complexities, and focus on pushing the boundaries of AI-generated art.

Zencore’s expertise in Google Cloud and Vertex AI has empowered Refik Anadol Studio to enhance their artistic output and explore new creative possibilities. The successful deployment of the GCP foundation and ML infrastructure has provided RAS with the tools needed to innovate and expand their artistic endeavors. The results of this collaboration directly empowered subsequent major projects including two exhibitions; 'Echoes of the Earth: Living Archive' at Serpentine Galleries and 'in situ: Refik Anadol' at Guggenheim Bilbao both of which showcased the ability to operate the enhanced real-time AI generation at scale, and Dataland’s first AI project, the 'Living Encyclopedia,' which put user model deployment capabilities into practice.
